Indianola Alderman Sam Brock was not thrilled with the city pumping $35,000 more into the Safe Street Project Fund absent more clear accounting from the police department.
Back in the summer, the board voted to fund the emergency program to help curb crime, namely rampant street racing and other vehicular mischief.
Apparently, there have been three officers utilized to supplement weekend shifts.
IPD Chief Ronald Sampson said this has helped full-time officers focus on their patrols, while also addressing problem areas within the city.
Brock said before approving more funding, he would like to see better documentation as to how the money has been used.
“It shows the accountability is not being kept in place as it should be at the police department,” Brock said.
Sampson and Mayor Ken Featherstone assured Brock they would provide him with detailed documentation at the next board meeting.
“I don’t see going $50,000, unless we have some figures to go along with it,” Brock said.
The mayor reassured him it would be available.
“I can provide that,” Featherstone said.
