Christopher Ivory has been described by his Gentry High School classmates as energetic and funny.
He was also “humble,” according to Eugene Pearson Jr., who graduated with Ivory back in May of 2023.
Ivory was shot and killed just outside of Indianola on Tuesday night. At press time, investigators had few leads in the case.
Friends and family are now mourning the loss of the young man, who had his entire life in front of him.
Ivory, 18, certainly appeared humble when he calmly and stoically accepted his diploma on the MDCC football field during Gentry’s graduation ceremony last year.
“Chris was the true definition of a unique and different classmate,” Pearson said, recalling the class motto, “Individuality makes us different; however, respect brings us together.”
Class President A’Davion Bush said of Ivory, “His presence spoke for itself.”
“Christopher was filled with life,” Bush said. “He could make you look at him and say, ‘Calm down,’ then the next minute have you crying and laughing. He was just that funny.”
Bush said that Ivory was involved in church and other activities, and he was always a big helping hand when they were in school.
“He was the teacher's favorite, the administrator's favorite handful and one of the class's favorites,” Bush said.
Pearson said that he will remember Ivory for his ability to make people laugh, “Even if you tried to be mad with him.”
“Chris, my dear classmate was indeed that person,” Pearson said. “He was humbled, humorous and energetic, all at the same time. Though he is no longer with us physically, he will forever hold a special place in our hearts. So, sleep on classmate, you’ll be missed dearly. I pray that God welcomes you in His arms.”
Arrangements for Ivory had not been released as of press time.
