The Sunflower County Board of Supervisors adopted this week the International Property Maintenance Code.
The public hearing section of Monday’s meeting met with no objections from the public on the standardized property code, which should provide a roadmap for holding property owners accountable for unkempt lots and buildings and also set in place due process for adjudication.
Board Attorney Johnny McWilliams said he made a few modifications to the code to bring it in line with state law when it comes to adjudication.
District 1 Supervisor Glenn Donald made the motion to pass the ordinance. District 3 Supervisor Ben Gaston seconded it and it was passed unanimously.
It will go into effect 30 days from Monday’s hearing.
