The City of Indianola’s payroll clerk has announced intent to retire at the end of the year, which prompted the city to engage with a private company likely starting in December.
The board voted unanimously on Monday night to engage with CF Grow Accounting LLC.
The company will likely come on ahead of the planned retirement to learn the ropes before the new year.
“It’s going to be hard to fill her shoes, but what we would like to do is to get an interim person in at least by December 1, so that person can monitor or shadow her so that we don’t have any issues with our payroll transactions,” said Angela Goodwin, city clerk.
Mayor Ken Featherstone said the move would assure a smooth transition.
“The last thing we need is to have our city employees not to have their check or payroll go through. We’re just trying to be proactive,” he said.
Ward 5 Alderman Sam Brock suggested the board receive the intent to retire in writing.
“If not, we’re going to have made the wrong transition,” he said.
The contract is for $3,000 a month and will be coded to professional services.
Meanwhile, the city will be advertising for the human resources payroll clerk position.
