Basketball has officially begun for the Indianola Academy programs.
And tonight will find both IA teams playing on their own court.
With Deer Creek School of Arcola visiting the IA gym, the Colonels and Lady Colonels are hoping to pick up their first win of the season. Tipoff for the girl’s game is 6 p.m. with the boys playing immediately thereafter.
The IA basketball season initially opened this past Tuesday when both squads traveled to Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
Unfortunately both teams were dealt a loss; while the Lady Colonels fell by a 50-16 score, the Colonels dropped a 62-38 decision.
Additional IA basketball action resumes next Monday with a trip to Batesville to take on the Green Wave of North Delta School.
Quickly returning to the gym for another night of play, next Tuesday will find the IA squads back on their home court where they will host Washington School of Greenville.
Both nights of play will commence with a 6 p.m. tipoff for the girls game and the boys’ action to follow.
In the Lady Colonels Tuesday night loss to Lee Academy, leading the scoring for the IA squad was Hannah Lloyd with her six points. Those digits placed on the scoreboard came in addition to the 10 rebounds Lloyd recorded against the Lee Academy Fillies.
Close behind in scoring was Leighton Lovelace with her five point night of play.
In the boys’ game, playing on only one day’s practice due to football just being completed, the Colonels’ efforts were led by E.J. Hall’s six points scored and rebounds.
