A pair of soccer matches is on this next week’s schedule for the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels.
However, the Lady Colonels most recently took a 3-3, 1-0 record on Wednesday evening’s road trip to Yazoo City against Manchester Academy.
Results of that outing were unavailable at press-time.
Future action will begin next Tuesday when Kirk Academy of Grenada visits IA for a 3 p.m. Division III North match-up.
Next Wednesday will then take the IA squad to Greenville St. Joe for a 4 p.m. match against the Lady Irish.
In other soccer last week, the Lady Colonels claimed a remarkable 8-3 Division III North victory over Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
Finding themselves down 3-0 after the first 20 minutes of the match, the Lady Colonels came alive and drilled eight unanswered goals into the net over the next 60 minutes of play.
“The girls came out really flat,” said IA Head Coach Alex Deason, “but they responded well.”
Leading the scoring for IA during this scoring flurry were Leighton Lovelace and Fran Veazey, both of whom recorded hat tricks (three goals apiece) against the Lee Academy defensive efforts.
Rounding out the scoring for IA was Gracyn Fike, who scored from a corner while Minhye Park’s kick also sent a ball past the Fillies’ goal keeper.
Lydia Williamson contributed three assists in this game while Emma Kate MacLeod and Fran Veazey added a pair of assists apiece to the IA scoring efforts.
Fike also enabled a goal with her own assist in the match.
