Judge upholds termination of former city attorney

A Sunflower County Circuit Court judge has upheld the decision to fire former Indianola City Attorney Derek D. Hopson Sr., ruling the city’s Board of Aldermen acted within its rights and did not violate statutory or constitutional protections in the June 2025 termination (Cause No. 2025-0207).

Mr. Smith, 27, died Friday, August 15, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, August 29, at the funeral home.

MDCC Sports HOF banquet set for April 26

The 2025 MDCC Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will take place on Saturday, April 26 at J.T. Hall Coliseum.
Doors open at 4 p.m. for Social Hour, the meal will be served at 5 p.m. and the Induction Ceremony begins at 5:45 p.m.
