The agenda for the Indianola mayor and board of aldermen was trimmed ahead of this past Monday night’s meeting.
During the adoption of the agenda, Mayor Ken Featherstone and the board made some adjustments by subtracting some items. The agenda originally had 16 items but Featherstone stated they would remove four of those.
The items that were removed were a review of the proposed employee handbook, approval to discuss vendor licensing and certification, approval to increase the mayor’s salary from $49,500 per year to $62,000 per year, and approval to send a resolution for funds to improve infrastructure to Rep. Otis Anthony.
Brock asked for an explanation for the removal of approval to send a resolution to the Legislature for funds to improve the infrastructure.
“I don’t have a problem with mentioning Representative Otis Anthony,” Featherstone responded. “He’s a good legislator. My thing was if there are other elected individuals from our district that should be included. We should take the opportunity to include them.”
Attorney Kimberly Merchant made the suggestion to add all of the lawmakers to the item instead of deleting it from the agenda.
Featherstone asked Brock if he was okay with that, and Brock responded, “Not really but we can move on.”
Featherstone said they would possibly review the increase in the mayor’s salary at the next meeting.
The board decided to adopt the agenda with the changes made by the mayor.
