Basketball action continues at a fast pace for the now 4-3 Lady Rams as this Saturday will find them at Greenville High School for more non-regional play.
With tip-off Saturday for the Lady Rams scheduled for 6 p.m., other future play has the Gentry High squad coming back to their home-court next Tuesday for a night of basketball against Yazoo County High School. Tip-off for this game is also scheduled for 6 p.m.
In their most recent play Tuesday night, for the third time this season the Lady Rams suffered a one point loss by way of a 54-53 decision to Amanda Elzy High in Greenwood.
Other action played last week in the Gentry High School Thanksgiving Classic saw the Lady Rams split their games played.
Rebounding from a hard-fought 53-52 loss to Horn Lake High last Friday, the Lady Rams earned a 64-57 victory over Ruleville Central High the next day.
In their recent loss to Amanda Elzy High, the Lady Rams nearly overcame a 32-17 halftime deficit with a 21-9 scoring run in the third period of the game.
However, although only down by three points going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Rams’ efforts would fall just short despite outscoring the Lady Panthers 15-13 in those final minutes of the game.
Again turning in a double double, Mercedes Hayes completed the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Rams while Belize Reed bucketed 13 points against the Elzy defense.
Against Ruleville Central High last Saturday, the Lady Rams would outscore their competition just enough in every quarter of play to earn their seven point victory.
Hayes’ double double again led her team as she finished the game with 26 points and 19 rebounds.
Also reaching double digit scoring were Nihya Davis (12 points) and Jaidra Green (10 points).
In their one point loss to Horn Lake High last Saturday, the Lady Rams saw a 25-23 halftime lead disappear in the third quarter when the Lady Eagles erupted into a 22-13 scoring binge.
Although rallying back in the final quarter, the Gentry squad came up their one basket short of claiming the game.
Hayes was a force for the Lady Rams as she added 22 rebounds to her 26 points scored in the contest.
