A weekend shooting in Sunflower left one man injured with multiple gunshot wounds and police looking for a suspect.
Police Chief Louis Baymon said Travaris Hunter, formerly of Sunflower and now living in Southaven, was shot seven times shortly after midnight on Saturday by a yet to be identified assailant.
Hunter was taken to a Greenville hospital and later airlifted to Jackson and as of Monday was in stable condition.
Baymon said the incident is still under investigation, but based on witnesses accounts, it appears that Hunter got into an altercation with another man, left and got into his car and attempted to rundown several people. In the process, he allegedly rammed a parked car twice, crashed through a fence and ran into a nightclub.
At that point, witnesses said he got out of the car wielding a knife and started walking toward a man that was standing there and that is when the shots rang out.
Baymon said he was told that Hunter was found lying on the ground after that.
He said shell casings were recovered at the scene, but no weapon had been found as of press time, and no one has come forward to offer up the name of the shooter.
Baymon said he is still talking to witnesses.
