The deadline for candidates, of next week’s Indianola Democratic Primary, to file a campaign spending report was Tuesday at 5 p.m.
With the election just a few days away only a handful of the aspirants have filed the required receipt and reimbursement form that denotes campaign contributions and disbursements as of press time on Wednesday.
By Mississippi statute, a candidate who doesn’t file or fails to file the required paperwork in a timely manor cannot be certified as elected to office or receive any compensation or salary until he or she submits all of the documents.
As of Wednesday morning, only two mayoral candidates had submitted spending reports:
Mario Robinson reported $2,789.82 in contributions and $2,466.15 spent out with $100 cash on hand.
Steve Rosenthal’s report indicates $22,345 in contributions with $7,657 disbursed and $14,688 remaining.
Only three aldermen have filed reports:
Ward 2 hopeful, Linda Smith Myles reported $150 taken in and $150 spent.
Ward 4 candidate, Marvin “Starvin Marvin” Elder indicated $2,533.40 in contributions with $2,195.40 paid out and a balance of $338 cash on hand.
Sam Brock Jr., Ward 5 hopeful, reported no contributions but $796.70 in payouts with zero cash on hand.
The Indianola Democratic Executive Committee also made a report of $300 in contributions with $40 in expenditures and a cash on hand balance of $260. Committee members Foster King and David Rushing also submitted reports with zero activity.
As of press time, mayoral candidate Vivian Jenkins and aldermen candidates Darrell Simpson, Rickey Hoskins, Harvey Watson, Ruben Wood, Sara Woods, Dana Myrick and Ricardo Gibson had not filed finance reports.
