One of Mississipip’s leading companies in the field of technology has announced plans to expand high-speed internet services to thousands of new consumers, and Indianola is right in the thick of it.
Ridgeland-based C-Spire put forth its three-phase plan last week that first involves offering broadband internet to thousands of consumers in some of Mississippi’s most technologically depleted communities.
“Indianola is in the Mississippi Delta, which is considered by government agencies to be an underserved area,” said C-Spire spokesman Dave Miller. “We wanted to do something initially to address those underserved areas.”
C-Spire plans to bring internet as fast as 25 megabits per second to up to 70,000 customers within the first phase.
The second and third phase, which Miller said will kickoff later this fall, involve bringing high-speed internet to thousands of small businesses in the Delta and north Mississippi.
“It’s very good speed,” Miller said.
During the second phase, Miller said C-Spire would like to connect one out of every five small businesses in Mississippi, which amounts to a little over 50,000 small businesses, with 1 gigbit per second internet speeds.
Phase three should see the company offer wireless fiber internet to around 200,000 customers at 100 megabits per second down and 10 megabits per second up.
“We want to provide more choices for the people,” Miller said.
