The drought has come to an end for the very young North Sunflower Academy Rebels football team.
As a bonus, this week’s open date has also afforded the Rebels extra time to savor their first victory of the season.
That breakthrough win occurred last Friday night when the now 1-5, 0-1 Rebels used Homecoming night to turn in a 38-8 victory over visiting Marvell (Ark.) Academy.
The loss to NSA contributed to the losing season the now 0-6 Eagles from across the Mississippi River are suffering through.
Meanwhile, this week’s open date also allows the Rebels extra time to prepare for the pair of District 2-2A contests coming up on their slate of games.
It will be Newton Academy next up for the Rebels as that October 11 game also represents the final NSA home game of the regular season.
In their recent victory over Marvell Academy, the bulk of the NSA scoring was recorded by four different players.
In addition to Miller Green’s 42-yard scoring run, Wyatt Barr also covered the final dozen yards to the endzone to register his touchdown.
Additional scoring came by way of 30-yard scamper by Jordan Williams and a 14-yard dash to the endzone by Bryce Redwine.
