A memorial service for Cynthia Gibson Jennings of Memphis, formerly of Indianola, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Indianola.
Evangelist Rhoshundria Bonds will officiate at the service.
Ms. Jennings, 50, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018.
Ms. Jennings is survived by one son, Rholando Jennings of Memphis; one daughter, Rhoshundria Bonds of Memphis; sis sisters, Mary Briscoe and Rosemary Jennings, both of Indianola, Jackie Brock of Augusta, Ga. and Tyneshai Carter, Tashila Hassel and Monica Grandberry, all of Lansing, Mich.; three brothers, Johnnie Richardson of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Fredrick Brock and Robert Brock, both of Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Byas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Services for Joe Stiffin Jr. of Indianola will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Baptist Church.
Mr. Stiffin, 71, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at South Sunflower County Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, with a family hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Byas Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stiffin was born July 10, 1947 in Inverness. He graduated from Gentry High School in Indianola in 1966. He later attended Alcorn State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. For 25 years, he taught science in the Indianola School District. Known and loved by many as “Heavy on the Gravy,” he had a boisterous personality and was always ready to tell a joke.
Mr. Stiffin was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Edings Stiffin, and his parents Joe Stiffin and Isabella Earvin Stiffin.
He is survived by four daughters, Fredricka (Neal III) Sharkey of Maumelle, Ark., Tara Head-Raymond of Memphis, Jovon Stiffin of Robinsonville and Amelia (Michael) Wilson of Ocean Springs; three brothers, James Stiffin of Bolingbrook, Ill, Willie (Michelle) Stiffin Sr. of Pensacola, Fla. and John (Wanda) Stiffin Sr. of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Alma Stiffin of Bolingbrook, Ill. and Rose Stiffin of Miami Gardens, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Donna Edings of San Bruno, Calif.; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins; and a multitude of friends and other loved ones.
