Gladys Christine Aust Maxey, 90, of Inverness, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola.
Christine was born March 23, 1928 to Richard Preston and Frances Leo Murff Aust in Schlater. She was a homemaker and store owner in Swiftown for many years. She loved Gunsmoke, Indianola Academy football, and Tom Jones and was the president of the southeast Tom Jones fan club. Christine was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Maxey; one son, Walter Preston “Butch” Maxey; and three brothers, Richard Aust, Ed Aust and Robert Aust.
Christine is survived by two sons, Jerry Michael Maxey and Bobby Wade Maxey and his wife Kim, all of Indianola; two brothers, Wade Aust and his wife Tommie Nell of Fulton and Walter Aust of Jenner, La.; two sisters, Nita Gardner of Bonifay, Florida and Jean Abernathy and her husband Mac of Florence; six grandchildren, Stephanie Maxey Bourque of Franklin, Tenn., Preston Maxey and Katherine Christine Maxey, both of Indianola, Lindsay Maxey Massey and Cody Wade Maxey, both of Inverness; and three great-grandchildren, Maria Bourque of Franklin, Tenn., and Anna Sterling Massey and Cam Massey, both of Inverness.
The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial followed in Itta Bena Cemetery.
Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
