AROUND THE TOWN BY MRS. R. M. YARBROUGH: Mr. and Mrs. James Abbott joined friends from Oxford and Greenwood and attended the LSU vs. Ole Miss ballgame over the weekend. They went by train for a weekend visit to New Orleans. Among others who attended the game ere Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crosthwait, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Paris, Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. LOCAL NEWS:
A local resident, Chandler Worley received a letter from President Richard Nixon after a letter from Worley was published in Life Magazine about World War II. The letter to Worley reads: “Your recent letter to the editors of Life was brought to my attention and this is just a note to express my appreciation. It is hard to realize that twenty-five years have gone by since World War II. With best wishes, Richard N, Nixon, President of the United States” Writer’s note: Chandler Worley was a much-decorated fighter pilot during World War II. He was the band instructor for Indianola High School and helped organize the first band at Gentry High School In his later career days, he was an officer of the Lewis Grocer Company. One of his sons, Gil Worley, still lives in Indianola.

The Sunflower County Supervisors have expressed an interest in purchasing the building next to the courthouse now occupied by the City of Indianola. It would house offices for the Justice Court and other county offices.
SOCIETY NEWS: Three Delta young ladies will be presented by the Southern Debutante Association at their White and Gold Ball at the Greenwood Country Club on December 22. They are Kimberly Perry Allen, Elizabeth Etheridge Gresham and Meredith Blair Allen.
SPORTS NEWS:
Indianola Academy senior Ryan Strawbridge helped the North All-Star football team to a victory over the South 25/23 His high school coach, Herbert Davis said, “I thought Ryan had an excellent game”.

LOCAL NEWS: There will be an appreciation reception at the Rasberry Methodist Church honoring Charles McLaurin who was one of the key leaders in the local and state civil rights movement in the 1960s McLaurin is now assistant director of the Indianola Public Works.
UPDATE ON RYAN STRAWBRIDGE
Twenty-five years ago, Ryan Strawbridge was an all-star player for the Indianola Academy for the northern district.
Today he is a key player for the Indianola branch pf Planters Bank and Trust Company.
He was named president of the Indianola branch several months ago.
Several months ago, Strawbridge was featured as the Delta Advocate in Delta Business Journal in an article by this writer.
He said that he has been in banking for over 16 years and that five years ago Randy Randall of Planters Bank called him and asked if he would be interested in coming home to the Delta with a position at Planters Bank in Greenwood. Strawbridge is an Indianola native.
“I can’t believe it has been twenty-five years ago that I was playing football for the Indianola Academy. We had great coaches and players and some of my best memories of high school involved that team. Ironically, one of the coaches for the All-Star team was Tommy Nester who is the coach for Indianola Academy today, Strawbridge said.
