As we celebrate the last days of the current year and enjoy the festive times of Christmas, do we have an expectation of what the days and months of the New Year are going to bring? Have we made plans that are going to affect us in the next few days as well as the future?
In the corporate structure of business and industry, plans and budgets have been made with expectations of gaining strength and moving forward to a bigger and better day. Many individuals also make plans of what they want to achieve or possibly look in a different direction for a change in their livelihood. These plans and predictions are all good; however, one must remember that most of these plans and predictions are desires to be accomplished and most of the times are often guesses or wishes. I have personally completed a lot of budgets and plans for the future, not only for myself, but for companies I have worked with. In all of these times I could never guarantee the future and the plans I had made because no one knows what the future holds. We have great expectations and we put our trust in worldly studies and predictions that could or could not hold true.
Over these many years that God has allowed me to be on earth, I have witnessed firsthand or have received news of someone’s life being taken without any warning. Many of these same people who left earth at an early age had plans for the future along with their wishes and hopes of obtaining greater and better things for themselves and their loved ones. There have been times when small and large businesses have suffered setbacks due to fire destruction or weather related storms. None of this was planned or desired by these companies even though everyone knew the possibility of a loss or failure. The future is unpredictable even though we all try to analyze what the future will bring.
Planning for the future is great and I firmly believe that everyone should do this. Companies and industries grow and depend on their future plans and encourage their employees to work toward these goals. Future planning and budgets are much needed items to project what an individual or company is looking for; however, we need to realize that all of us, and no one is excluded, are only one breath away from leaving this world and taking our destination ride into Hades or into our eternal home with Jesus. For those of us that know Jesus as our Lord and Savior never have to worry about our future because when He decides it is time for us to leave this sinful world, we understand that our heavenly home is with Him.
Having Jesus as our Lord and Savior guarantees us eternal life with Him and He tells us in Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” Then in Matthew 24:44 He says, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Our future on this earth is short. It is good to plan a good future here but all of us need to realize that when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we will spend eternity with Him.
