Alvin Toffler, the author of a book titled Future Shock wrote, “The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.”
Toffler also predicted that our generation was facing “too much change in too short a period of time.”
Although his book was published in 1970, it seems that many of his predictions are coming true - especially the part about too much change.
As most of us grow older, we have a tendency to become more conservative in our thinking.
We have had enough life experience to know what is good and what is bad, what will work and what will not work and why certain things are done the way they have been done for generations.
The institution of marriage is an example.
Marriage between a man and a woman has been around for thousands of years.
Our forefathers understood that the children produced by a marriage had a better chance of survival if they had a mother and a father.
Marriage is a good thing, an institution that gives human babies the best chance of growing to adulthood.
Which brings me to the $64,000 question.
Are the voters of the United States ready for an openly gay president?
If you have been watching and reading about the Democratic hopefuls for president, you know that Mayor Pete Buttigieg is openly gay.
In fact, he announced recently “that he and his husband are planning to have a child soon.”
We know that the normal way of having children will have to be circumvented in this case or we will have a medical first. I don’t think a man is going to birth a child, so Mayor Pete, who claims to be the wife, will have to adopt a child or heaven forbid, grow one in a petri dish.
“We’re hoping to have a little one soon, so I have a personal stake in this one, too,” Buttigieg said. “We should have paid parental leave and find a way to have paid leave for anyone who needs caring.”
When asked about his husband, Mayor Pete said, “My husband, he is made for a lot of things. He is a great educator. He has become a great public figure, coming out of the gate. He is going to be an amazing father. I can’t wait to see - I hope I will be good at it, too. I can’t wait to see him have that chance.”
Buttigieg is a typical progressive Democrat.
He promises the moon, yet he can’t deliver Swiss cheese.
He has attacked the electoral college by claiming that the popular vote should determine who is elected president.
He fails to mention that New York, Chicago and California would elect future presidents with absolutely no influence from the rest of the population.
But this thinking is typical of Democrats who want to fundamentally change America.
The Constitution is a stumbling block to these progressives, and Buttigieg, if elected, would do everything in his power to destroy long standing institutions that have served our country well.
He thinks that the Supreme Court should be “packed” with liberal judges. When asked about this, he indicated that as many a 15 new judges should be added to the Supreme Court.
He followed up this assertion by saying “It’s not lost on me that I was able to marry the man I love by the grace of one Supreme Court vote.”
Now, I don’t want to get into the personal lives of Pete and Chasten, but I think that the Supreme Court’s decision was wrong then and is wrong now.
If these two want to live together, fine, but to drape themselves in the sacred institution of marriage is “too much change in too short a period of time” for me.
Call me a Mississippi Red Neck, a bigot or whatever, but I believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
The Constitution of the United States protects all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation, but to declare that two men or two women can live together in Holy Matrimony does not compute.
If the institution of marriage can be destroyed by one Supreme Court decision, what other important institutions can be destroyed?
The liberal media loves Mayor Pete, so it will be interesting to see how well he does on the campaign trail.
My guess is that as time passes, he will fade like an old pair of blue jeans.
Then Mayor Pete can turn his attention to South Bend and hope that he gets elected for another term.
But one thing we know for sure. He is a member in good standing with the modern Democratic Party.
