The Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a Thursday shooting that resulted in one person being injured.
Sheriff James Haywood said that the shooting occurred in a field just before 5:30 p.m. just off of Bethany Church Road in the Drew-Merigold Road area.
Haywood said that the victim received non-life threatening injuries.
A person of interest has been identified, Haywood said, and investigators are awaiting a statement from the victim at this time.
“They have a person of interest they are trying to get up with,” Haywood said. “It’s in its infancy, and we are investigating it.”
