Completing last week’s basketball play with a pair of wins, the Indianola Academy Colonels will close out their pre-Christmas Day schedule this Friday with a challenging trip to Hartfield Academy in Flowood.
The Hartfield Academy Hawks will come into this game versus IA ranked No. 3 among all MAIS schools.
Meanwhile, the Colonels will be taking a 2-3, 2-0 record into this Friday’s 7 p.m. non-district contest following last Friday’s 55-36 decision over visiting Manchester Academy of Yazoo City last Friday night.
This was preceded one night earlier by a 50-38 District 1AAA home-court victory over Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
In this district win, the Colonels expanded on a narrow 24-20 halftime lead by outscoring the Colts 31-16 over the course of the second half of play.
Leading the scoring for IA in this game was DeDe Willis with a double double, a performance which included 17 points and 11 rebounds.
However, Ashton Powell just missed registering a triple double as he added nine points to his 10 steals and 10 rebounds in the game.
Also reaching double figures in scoring with 14 points was Randy Kimble.
In last Friday’s win over Manchester Academy, the Colonels built upon a 26-17 halftime lead en route to earning their 12 point decision.
There were four IA players reaching double digit scoring in this game and it was Stefon Smith’s 16 points which led the group.
Meanwhile, Kimble, Powell, and Willis contributed a dozen points apiece to the Colonels’ balanced offensive efforts.
