Using a pair of home-court victories to even their season record to a 6-6, 1-1 mark, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels will hit the road this Friday night.
With their destination being Hartfield Academy of Flowood, this 6 p.m. non-district clash also serves as the Lady Colonels’ final contest prior to Christmas Day.
In last week’s pair of games played on their home-court, the Lady Colonels initially earned a Thursday night, 50-38 District 1AAA win over Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
This was followed one night later with an exciting 36-35 victory over Manchester Academy of Yazoo City.
In this contest, it would be a buzzer-beating jump shot by Anna Berry Stevens which clinched this non-district IA victory.
On a night which saw the lead alternate between the two teams throughout the game, in the end it was Stevens’ short jumper just outside the lane which provided the Lady Colonels with their one point margin of victory.
Stevens would complete the game with a dozen rebounds to go along with her team-high nine points scored.
Following close behind in scoring was Lizzie Smith, who posted eight points on the IA side of the scoreboard.
In IA’s 12 point victory over Lee Academy, a 13-4 third period scoring surge helped earn this important district decision.
Leading the scoring for IA in this game with 13 points was Mallory Price.
Double digits was also reached in the rebounding category by Stevens, who grabbed 13 errant shots to go along with her eight points scored.
