Although still searching for their first basketball win of the season, the Indianola Academy Colonels are hoping their own court will help them find that elusive victory.
Beginning with today’s non-district match-up against Bayou Academy of Cleveland, the 0-10, 0-2 Colonels are embarking on a three-game run of 7 p.m. home court dates.
The following two clashes to be played in the IA gym will bring District 2-3A competition, beginning with Friday’s visit by Central Holmes Christian School of Lexington. Next Tuesday will then bring Winona Christian School to the IA gym for another district match-up.
In this past week’s play, it was a Tuesday night visit to Winona Christian School which served as the Colonels’ most recent action.
Following their arrival to the Stars’ gym, the Colonels absorbed a 59-49 loss.
In this loss, the Colonels saw a 23-22 halftime lead disappear in the second half of play after the Stars put together a 37-26 run.
Leading IA’s offensive efforts was Cole Ferrell’s 17 point game.
Also contributing strong efforts were Ashton Powell with an 11 point, 10 rebound double double, and John Suddoth’s 11 point outing.
Other action this past week included their participation in the Kirk Academy Tournament last Friday and Saturday.
While last Saturday’s play against Washington School ended with a 48-31 loss to the Generals, last Friday saw the Colonels drop a 64-14 decision to Magnolia Heights School of Senatobia.
Versus Washington School, the Colonels’ scoring efforts were led by Suddoth and Ferrell, both of whom placed nine points apiece on the scoreboard.
Ferrell also scored a team-high seven points against Magnolia Heights School one day earlier.
