Using a pair of basketball victories to close out the past calendar year, the Gentry High Lady Rams have now evened up their basketball record to a 7-7, 1-0 mark.
With that momentum in hand, the Lady Rams will now turn their focus toward the upcoming run of Region 3-4A contests which are fast approaching.
However, the first game of the new calendar year will also serve as the Lady Rams’ final tune-up prior to entering those all-important regional clashes.
Hoping to keep their winning streak intact this Friday, the Lady Rams will travel to Shaw High School to tangle with the 1A member Lady Eagles.
Regional action will then commence next Tuesday when the Gentry squad hosts Yazoo City High School.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
In their victories earned this past weekend during the Humphreys County High Christmas Classic, last Saturday’s play earned the Gentry squad a 61-58 decision over the host Cowgirls.
One day earlier, the Lady Rams dealt Ridgeland High School an exciting 39-33 defeat.
Against Humphreys County High, a 21-11 second quarter scoring run provided the Lady Rams with enough cushion to withstand a Humphreys County rally in the fourth period.
The Belzoni squad’s 22-16 outburst would come up short and the Lady Rams earned their hard-fought, three point victory.
Leading the Gentry High scoring was freshman Taniyah Williams, whose strong 24-point performance led all scorers in this game.
Meanwhile, Darlicia Coleman continued her consistent play by recording a 13-point, 12-rebound double double.
In their come-from-behind victory over Ridgeland High School, for three quarters the Lady Rams found themselves on the short end of the score.
Down 20-15 at halftime, that five point deficit would remain intact as the game entered the final period of play.
However, at this point the Lady Rams began to take over the basketball game and ultimately put together a 15-4 scoring run to earn the victory.
Williams again paced the Lady Rams’ scoring with her 10-point outing while Coleman added seven points to the 11 rebounds she recorded during this night’s action.
