Owning a four game win streak, the Gentry High Rams basketball team is about to enter into an important three game run of Region 3-4A contests.
However, there is a challenging non-regional game to be played this Friday when the 13-2, 1-0 Rams travel to Shaw High School.
This 7 p.m. contest will pit the Rams against a squad of Eagles ranked as the No. 5 team among 1A schools.
This outing will then be followed by next Tuesday’s home-court clash with regional foe Yazoo City High School.
The only home-court date among the upcoming trio of regional games on the Rams’ schedule, tip-off for this contest against the Indians is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, during this past week’s action, the Rams claimed a pair of victories in the Humphreys High Christmas Classic.
Most recently, the Gentry squad claimed a 70-56 decision on Saturday over the host Cowboys squad.
Jumping out to a 30-23 halftime lead, the Rams continued to build on their lead in the second half by outscoring Humphreys County by a 40-33 margin.
The Rams benefited from three players reaching double digit scoring status and were led by 15-point performances from both Clint Ferguson and Ladarius Johnson.
Following close behind, while also recording a 14 point, 10 rebound double double, was Jesse Hull.
One day earlier, the Rams earned a 72-54 victory over Ridgeland High School as four Rams paced their team’s scoring.
Taking a 37-30 lead to the dressing room at halftime, the Rams would ultimately use a 24-10 fourth quarter scoring run to help take the game to its final 18-point margin of victory.
Leading the scoring for Gentry High was Johnson with 20 points, while fellow senior David Windfield added his 18 point night of play.
In addition to Hull’s 12-point game, Orlando Liddell, Jr. turned in a double double which saw the junior match his 10 points scored with 10 rebounds.
