The bad news is a run of nine consecutive basketball wins came to an end Tuesday night for the Gentry High Rams.
The good news is after toiling through six consecutive road trips, the Rams will finally be returning to their own court this Friday night.
At 7 p.m. that day, the now 9-2, 1-0 Rams will take on Thomas E. Edwards High School from Ruleville.
The Rams will then hit the road again this Saturday for another non-regional bout with Leland High School. This 7 p.m. game will wrap up the Rams’ action prior to Christmas Day.
As for their action this past week, the Gentry High squad dropped a 56-53 Tuesday night road game to Holmes County High in Lexington.
Prior to that addition to the win column, last Friday in Tunica, the Rams opened their Region 3-4A competition with a dominating 84-48 decision over Rosa Fort High School.
The Rams exploded to a 52-21 halftime lead and then cruised on to their victory.
A trio of Rams reached double digit scoring status in this game, a group led by David Windfield’s 16 point performance.
A double-double was recorded by Jesse Hull, as the senior poured 15 points through the basket while bringing down a dozen rebounds.
Rounding out these scoring leaders with a strong 14 point outing was Clint Ferguson.
The Lady Rams
The Gentry High Lady Rams are coming to their home court this Friday for the final time prior to Christmas Day.
With a Region 3-4A basketball victory also now to their credit, the 5-5, 1-0 Lady Rams will take on the visiting Tigers of Thomas E. Edwards High School from Ruleville.
Tipoff for this game. which brings Ole Miss commit and two-time Dandy Dozen pick Jacorriah Bracey to the Gentry High gymnasium, is set for 6 p.m.
Almost a month ago, the Gentry High squad claimed a 51-47 victory over the Edwards High team.
In the Lady Rams action this past week, a Tuesday night 46-41 loss to Holmes County High in Lexington closed out a string of six consecutive road games the Gentry High squad had on its schedule.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Rams in this game was Jaidra Green with 20 points while Darlicia Coleman added 16 to the Gentry High point total.
