After splitting their two basketball games played last week, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels now have only one game remaining on their schedule in this calendar year.
Owning a 5-6, 0-1 record, the Lady Colonels will take a trip today to Manchester Academy in Yazoo City for a non-district clash with the Lady Mavericks. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Following this contest, the IA squad will not see live action again until January 3 of the upcoming new year.
In their action this past week, the Lady Colonels began with last Thursday’s exciting 40-39 victory over visiting Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
One day later, again on their home court, the IA girls opened their District 2-3A play with a hard-fought 43-36 loss to Oak Hill Academy of West Point.
Against Lee Academy, the Lady Colonels saw their 18-15 halftime lead become the difference in the outcome of the game.
Despite the Fillies from Clarksdale outscoring the Lady Colonels in the second half by a 24-22 margin, that margin allowed IA to escape with the victory.
Leading the offensive efforts for IA was Mattie Beth Williamson as the junior’s double double performance included 16 points and 14 rebounds.
A strong game was also had by Lizzy Smith, who pulled down 15 rebounds while scoring five points and recording seven steals.
In Friday’s loss to a talented Oak Hill Academy squad, the Lady Colonels found themselves only down by a 20-19 margin at halftime.
Coming out strong in the third period, a 14-8 IA run gave the Lady Colonels a 33-28 lead as the game entered the final quarter of play.
However, the Lady Raiders stormed back by outscoring the IA girls 15-3 to record the win.
Williamson’s 13 point outing led the scoring for the Lady Colonels in this game.
