Only one final non-district football game now remains to be played by the North Sunflower Academy Rebels.
This upcoming road trip precludes an all-important three game string of District 1-1A match-ups on the NSA horizon.
This Friday’s trip to Marks for a 7 p.m. clash with Delta Academy will pit the 2-4,0-1 Rebels against a 2-5 Raiders squad.
Owning a two game losing streak, the Raiders are looking to get back into the win column against an NSA squad which is also hungry for a win.
Last Friday night, both squads tasted defeat. While the Rebels fell 38-8 to a strong 2A member Marvell (AR) Academy squad, the Raiders suffered a 23-20 loss to Columbus Christian School.
Added motivation for a victory by the NSA squad this week is to end the two game win streak Delta Academy currently owns over the Rebels.
Last season the Raiders prevailed by a 39-8 margin and the victory contributed to the 4-7 record accumulated by the team from Marks during the 2018 season.
In last week’s loss to the now 6-1 Eagles of Marvell Academy, the Rebels avoided a shutout with a second quarter 40 yard TD run by Riley Johnson; the junior also added a two point conversion run to account for the balance of the NSA scoring in this contest.
