With only four regular season games remaining on their basketball schedule, the Indianola Academy Colonels are methodically closing in on the end of their regular season schedule.
Owning an 8-8, 6-1 overall record, the Colonels will play on the own court today when Starkville Academy visits for a non-district bout. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Colonels most recently faced Bayou Academy in the IA gym Tuesday night and were handed 66-59 district loss to complete a week of action, which garnered one victory during three nights of action.
Additional basketball play will occur for the Colonels next Monday with a trip to Kirk Academy in Grenada. This 7 p.m. contest also serves as the final district game of the regular season.
Another 7 p.m. non-district contest is on tap for the Colonels next Tuesday when Greenville Christian School visits the IA gym.
In their loss to Bayou Academy, a 27-24 IA halftime lead disappeared in the second half of play after the Colts posted a pair of 21-16 periods of scoring to capture the win.
While Stefon Smith’s double double included 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Colonels, DeDe Willis added 17 points while Josh Hill struck for a dozen points against the Colts’ defense.
Meanwhile, last Thursday saw the Colonels earn a 58-41 road district decision over Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
In this game the Colonels used a 28-19 halftime lead to help propel them to their win.
Along with an 18 point, dozen rebound double double by Smith, Randy Kimble added another 18 points to the IA side of scoreboard.
In their other loss suffered last Friday to Pillow Academy in Greenwood, the Colonels fell by a 52-32 margin to the non-district Mustangs.
Down 27-19 at halftime, scoring remained difficult for the Colonels in the second half of play and it was Kimble’s 14 points which paced the IA scoring attack.
