It was a strong way to begin a new calendar year.
Rebounding from the three tournament losses suffered last week, the now 7-8, 2-0 Indianola Academy Lady Colonels basketball team also kept their District 1AAA record spotless Tuesday night with a 42-39 home-court victory over Bayou Academy of Cleveland.
Additional opportunity to improve their won-loss record occurs this Saturday when the Lady Colonels travel to Heritage Academy in Columbus for a 6 p.m. non-district contest.
A return to district action will then take place next Tuesday for the IA squad with a trip to Grenada to take on a strong Kirk Academy team. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Against Bayou Academy, the Lady Colonels received points from eight different players to edge the Lady Colts in Tuesday night’s district clash.
This large group of players were led by Sarah Grace Manor’s 14 points scored while Anna Berry Stevens bucketed 10 points against the Bayou Academy defense.
In their Kirk Academy Tournament competition last weekend, the Lady Colonels closed out their three games of play with a narrow 32-28 Saturday loss to Washington School of Greenville.
While Manor collected 13 rebounds to lead her team in this category, Allie Rodgers and Stevens paced the IA scoring effort with six points apiece.
One day earlier, the Lady Colonels dropped a hard-fought 31-28 decision to Carroll Academy.
It was Elizabeth Smith who led the IA scoring in this game with her 16 points.
In their tournament opener played last Thursday, the IA girls fell by a 40-28 margin to Manchester Academy of Yazoo City.
While Stevens led IA’s scoring in this game with 11 points, Mallory Price reached double digits in the rebounding category by pulling down 11 errant shots.
