With their regular season winding down and playoffs looming on the horizon, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels have recently been dodging rain while their schedule has them hosting Carroll Academy at 6:30 p.m. next Monday in a final non-district contest.
Owning a 15-7; 4-2 record, the IA squad is fresh off a 4-0 Monday evening road loss to Bayou Academy in Cleveland.
This district game was preceded by last Saturday’s participation in the Carroll Academy Tournament which saw the Lady Colonels sandwich one win between a pair of losses.
The IA win was earned with a 6-5 decision over Washington School in the bottom half of a tie breaker inning.
After Mary Linton Davis was placed on second base and moved to third base following a Lillie Travis single, Presley Scott Jackson was then intentionally walked to load the bases in hopes of a force out at home.
The General’s plan did not pay off as a Lily Putnam line drive to the right side of the diamond ultimately plated Travis with the game-ending run.
Leading the hitting for IA in this game was Ella Servadio with three singles.
The IA girls opened their tournament play with an 8-0 loss to Bayou Academy despite a pair of singles from Anna Berry Stevens.
In their tournament-closing game, the Lady Colonels fell by an 11-0 score to Clinton Christian Academy with Servadio’s pair of singles leading the IA hitting attack.
