On a mission to get back into the win column, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels will again hit the basketball court today.
With Kirk Academy of Grenada coming to the IA gym today for a 6 p.m. District 1AAA clash, the 7-9, 1-2 Lady Colonels also have a district game scheduled for 6 p.m. next Tuesday at North Delta School in Batesville.
In their basketball action played this past week, the Lady Colonels dropped a pair of games beginning with last Thursday’s 38-35 district road decision to Bayou Academy in Cleveland.
Although the IA squad dug an early hole by way of a 13-3 first period deficit, the Lady Colonels rallied back in the second quarter.
Outscoring the Bayou Academy squad 18-10 in this second frame, the first half of play ended with the Lady Colts clinging to a narrow 23-21 lead.
Unfortunately, IA was outscored 15-14 in the second half of play as the game moved on to its final three point conclusion.
Leading the scoring for IA in this contest was Anna Berry Stevens who just missed recording a triple double.
The senior finished the game with 13 points, nine rebounds, and eight steals.
Other play this past Saturday afternoon saw the Lady Colonels drop a 43-37 home-court decision to Heritage Academy of Columbus.
Although the IA squad owned a 22-18 first half lead, the visiting Lady Patriots stormed back in the second half to outscore the Lady Colonels 25-15; a rally which enabled the Columbus squad to claim the game.
Turning in a double double to lead her team, Berry matched her dozen points scored with a dozen rebounds during her afternoon’s play against the Lady Patriots.
