In what could be called the second season, the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels will begin the post-season portion of their basketball season tonight when they face Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
This 6 p.m. opening game of the District 1AAA Tournament hosted by Bayou Academy in Cleveland also serves as an elimination game for these opposing teams.
Owning a 13-18 record, should the Lady Colonels prevail over the Fillies they will return to Bayou Academy on Friday for a 4 p.m. match-up against the state’s top-ranked AAA team, Kirk Academy of Grenada.
Whatever the outcome of future district tournament games, a victory tonight ensures the Lady Colonels of a berth in next week’s North AAA Tournament to be hosted by North Delta School in Batesville.
Game dates, times, and opponents are to be determined pending this week’s district tournament play.
In their most recent action Monday night, the Lady Colonels closed out their regular season schedule in positive fashion as they handily defeated visiting Winona Christian School by a 48-20 margin.
With 11 players scoring points in this game, senior Sidney Landrum played her final game in the IA gym by leading her team’s scoring effort with a 13 point night of play.
Other seniors posting points on the scoreboard in their final appearance on their home court were Sydney Holmes and Sarah Grace Manor, as the pair scored seven and four points respectively against the Lady Stars’ defense.
In the IA squad’s final regular season road trip last Friday to Manchester Academy, the Lady Colonels fell by a 51-36 margin to the school from Yazoo City.
Junior Anna Berry Stevens paced IA’s scoring in this contest with 13 points while Mallory Price reached double digits in rebounding by grabbing 10 missed shots.
