The Gentry High Lady Rams are playing like a team on a mission.
After opening their 4A State postseason play in dominating fashion, the Region 3-4A champion Gentry High Lady Rams are moving on to round two of their march toward Jackson and a potential state title.
Owning a 23-5 record following their Monday night 80-27 home-court victory over Noxubee County of Macon, the Lady Rams will now entertain Senatobia High School this Friday at 7 p.m.
The Warriors, the number two seed from Region 1, will bring a 21-8 record to town after demolishing Shannon High School Monday night by a 76-42 margin.
Should Gentry Head Coach Sarita Cooper’s squad prevail over Senatobia, they will then move on to the quarterfinals to be played next Monday night.
At 7 p.m. that day the Lady Rams will play either Louisville or Amory High School; a pair of 20 plus win clubs doing battle this Friday night.
Should Louisville win their game, the Lady Rams will be on the road for their quarterfinal contest; if Amory prevails this Friday, then next Monday will find the Gentry High squad once again playing on their home court.
All of this upcoming quarterfinal play will set the stage for the State 4A Final Four which will begin March 4 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
To reach their current status in the playoffs, Monday night the Lady Rams took early control of their game with Noxubee County and then rolled to their lopsided 53 point victory.
There were five Lady Rams reaching double digit scoring status in this contest and this large group was led by Shacori Dawson’s 15 point night of play.
However, Mercedes Hayes was close behind as she not only pushed 14 points through the basket but once again turned in a double double by matching her point total with 14 rebounds.
Completing the scoring leadership for Gentry High were Nyah Davis and Belize Reed with a dozen points apiece while Darlicia Coleman added 11 points to the Lady Rams’ side of the scoreboard.
