Following an open date, a return to the football field is not the only item on the agenda this Friday at North Sunflower Academy.
In addition to the 3-1, 1-1 Rebels taking the field at 7 p.m. to battle District 1E foe Delta Academy of Marks, the NSA squad will also attempt to add to the Homecoming celebration being conducted that same night.
The Rebels are hoping to take advantage of the two weeks available to prepare for this big game when they take on a 3-3, 2-1 Delta Academy squad. The squad from Marks most recently suffered a 20-14 district loss last week to Sharkey-Issaquena Academy of Rolling Fork.
The Raiders saw a three game win streak end with that loss, a winning streak which came on the heels of having lost their two opening games of the 2017 season.
To date, the only common opponent shared by NSA and Delta is Marvell (AR) Academy. Played on successive weeks, the Rebels defeated that Arkansas squad by 44-28 margin while Delta Academy prevailed by a 28-22 margin over this common opponent.
Historically, NSA defeated Delta Academy by a 68-8 margin last season, a loss which added to the Raiders’ 6-5 campaign and which ultimately ended in the first round of the playoffs.
Since the 2004 season, NSA owns an 8-3 series advantage over the school from Marks.
