Regional basketball action continues to ramp up for the Gentry High Rams.
Although suffering a 54-47 loss Tuesday night on their own court, the Rams will take their 14-3, 1-1 record to Greenwood High School this Friday where they will continue their Region 3-4A play.
This first of a pair of upcoming 7 p.m. road trip games will then be followed by next Tuesday’s regional clash at Clarksdale High School.
In their most recent regional play which occurred Tuesday night, the Rams hosted Yazoo City High School and absorbed their seven point loss to the Indians.
Ladarius Johnson led the Rams’ scoring attack with his 11 point night of play.
This decision was preceded by a 49-40 road victory last Friday over a tough squad of Shaw High School Hawks.
In their non-regional clash with Shaw High School, the Rams used strong defense in the second half of play to help fuel their victory.
Following a first half of play which left the score knotted at 25 points apiece, the Rams outscored the Hawks 24-15 in the second half of the game.
This surge was made possible by the Rams limiting the Hawks to single digit scoring in each of the final pair of quarters of the game.
Leading the scoring for the Rams in this contest was Makelvi Hutchins as the junior dropped 10 points through the basket.
Also reaching double digit status in the rebounding category was Jesse Hull; the senior grabbed 11 errant Shaw High shots at the basket.
