It is Homecoming week at Thomas E. Edwards High School and the Tigers football team is bent on doing its part in making the celebration memorable.
While also hoping to pick up their initial Region 3-3A victory while in the process, the Tigers will welcome a winless Humphreys County High School squad to town this Friday night.
The 7 p.m. kickoff will match the 3-4, 0-1 Tigers against an 0-6, 0-1 Cowboys squad hungry for their first victory of the 2019 season.
This Friday’s Homecoming game will also serve as the Tigers’ final regular season game to be played on its home field.
Last Friday night while the Tigers were dropping a hard-fought 8-0 home-field decision to district foe Amanda Elzy High of Greenwood, the Belzoni-based Cowboys began their district play with a loss as well.
The Cowboys fell by a 24-0 score to Coahoma Early College High School; formerly known as Coahoma AHS.
Humphreys County High will come to Edwards High this Friday night also bent on snapping the three-year losing streak they own in games versus the Ruleville school.
Last season, the Tigers handed the Cowboys a 34-26 loss which contributed to Humphreys County’s less-than-stellar 3-8 record earned during that 2018 campaign.
However, the Cowboys still own a 4-3 series advantage over the Tigers in games played since the 2004 season.
In last Friday’s loss to Amanda Elzy High, a 70 yard touchdown run from scrimmage in the second quarter would prove to stand up for the Panthers’ win as the Tigers were unable to reach the end zone.
