City won’t extend Rhodes beyond May 31

City of Indianola board members made it clear on Wednesday that they will not walk back the impending termination of Dr. Phyllis Rhodes.
Rhodes has served as a financial consultant for the city since last summer, and the board voted 4-1 during its last regular meeting to end her contract, effective May 31.

Plan A hosts Community Baby Shower event

Sunflower County mothers and expectant mothers recently had a chance to learn about the resources offered by a Delta-based organization.
And a few of them went home with some prizes.
Plan A held a community baby shower last Thursday at the National Guard Armory building.

City goes with original plan to replace Freedom School marker

Indianola’s Freedom School historical marker will be replaced as the board had ordered last summer.
The marker was originally placed at the Jefferson Street property where Mrs. Irene McGruder’s Freedom School was firebombed and burned to the ground in the 1960s. It was apparently hit by a driver, breaking the pole.
