A return to the win column is job #1 tonight for the Tigers of Thomas Edwards High School.
However, the 1-2 Tigers will face a serious challenge in completing the job as the 2-1 Hornets of Greenville High School will visit the Edwards High field for today’s 7 p.m. kickoff.
With tonight’s game, the Tigers are hoping to rebound from last Friday’s 44-22 road loss to West Tallahatchie High School.
Despite the loss, that trip to Webb saw the Tigers being only down by a14-8 score at halftime. Additionally, the Tigers would post the most points on the undefeated (3-0) Choctaws of any team played this season.
“West Tally is a very good team,” noted Edwards High Head Coach Quintarus McCray. “They play really aggressive and sound football.”
Moving on to tonight’s competition, the Tigers will face a 6A member Greenville High squad which last week fell by a 39-6 margin to Greenwood High School.
That loss also snapped the two-game win streak with which the Hornets had opened their season.
That achievement is noteworthy as it marked the first time a Greenville High football team had opened a season with two victories since their 2006 campaign.
One common opponent thus far this season the Tigers and Hornets have shared is Gentry High School.
While the Hornets claimed a 26-6 victory over the Rams, the Tigers earned a 38-20 decision over their cross-county rival.
The Greenville High squad has already matched the number of wins earned last season when they struggled through a 2-8 campaign.
One of those 2024 victories was a 23-6 decision over the Tigers. Historically, the Hornets own a 3-1 series advantage over the Edwards High football program.
In last week’s loss to West Tallahatchie High, the Tigers received touchdowns from junior quarterback Ian Harris, senior Rayquan Maxon, and junior Tyondria Willis.
