Win or lose, the 2024 Thomas Edwards High football season will be coming to an end tonight at Winona High School.
However, although playoff hopes have disappeared, today’s 7 p.m. kickoff offers the Tigers of Edwards High a final opportunity to record a Region 3-3A victory.
Taking a 1-7, 0-3 record into this contest between two squads of Tigers, the Edwards High team will face a Winona High team which owns a 4-5, 2-1 record.
In their most recent action last Friday night, the Tigers from Ruleville suffered their third consecutive Region 3-3A loss by dropping a 28-6 decision to the visiting Panthers of Yazoo County High School.
The Panthers improved their record to a 4-5, 2-2 mark with the victory over the Tigers.
Meanwhile, that same night Winona High was bettering their record by earning a 47-8 decision over Amanda Elzy High (3-5, 1-2) of Greenwood.
Last season was special for Winona High School as that football team accumulated a 15-0 record while claiming the 3A State Championship.
The Edwards High Tigers’ efforts against that strong Winona squad resulted in a 48-18 loss, increasing Winona’s win streak over the school from Ruleville to six games.
