Heading to Belzoni, the Thomas E. Edwards High School Tigers put their undefeated conference record on the line and added another win, 54-39, over the Humphreys County High School Cowboys.
Tigers Head Coach Anthony Davis is happy to stay undefeated in 3A Region 3 at 7-0 and move to 20-7 overall. And now he’s looking forward to finishing the regular season at Winona on Friday night.
This followed a home sweep of Winona last Friday night.
“I think they're fighting for the fourth or fifth spot,” Coach Davis said. “We're going to go ahead and try to stay so we can stay tuned up. We want to be ready for the post-season.”
And tuned up they stayed as Samuel Jefferson led the team with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
“Samuel Jefferson had an awesome game tonight. We're playing real well, playing together, every unit. That’s the main reason for our success – playing together and sharing the basketball,” Coach Davis said.
The Tigers are now focused on the conference tournament that begins on February 5 at Yazoo County High School. The Tigers will get their bracket this Friday and will play on Thursday, February 6, in the tournament.
