For the tenth year, local youth are teeing off at the annual golf camp hosted at Merritt Middle School. The two-week event, sponsored by the Rasberry Men’s Club and Delta Players Golf Association, aims to introduce children ages 8 to 14 to the lifelong sport of golf.
Dr. Cassie Pennington, one of the event’s organizers, shared his enthusiasm for the program.
“We’ve done this for ten years. This year, it’s running for two weeks, from June 2 to June 13, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.,” he said. “We’re trying to introduce the kids to golf because it can be a lifelong hobby. We want them to carry this with them the rest of their lives.”
Pennington noted that the camp has seen a positive response from participants.
“It’s going really well, with a nice turnout. The kids are enthusiastic and doing a good job,” he added.
The free camp provides beverages and snacks, and participants are advised to dress comfortably with proper headwear. For more information, interested parents and guardians can contact Pennington at 662-347-9645.
The program continues next week, offering more opportunities for local youth to learn and enjoy the sport of golf.
