DSU staff to return to campus next week

Delta State University staff members are preparing to return to campus next week.

A letter from DSU President Bill LaForge confirmed this week that the summer work schedule of Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. will commence May 26. Summer classes are still being taught by faculty online.

SCCSD set for virtual graduations

The Sunflower County Consolidated School District is still on track to have four graduation ceremonies this year.

There will be two for each school, a virtual one and a traditional one on a date to be announced when Centers for Disease Control relaxes social distancing guidelines.

Parchman inmate passes away in Greenville hospital

An inmate serving a life sentence at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman passed away this week.

According to a release from the Mississippi Department of Corrections on Monday, Darryl J. Swainer, 58, died at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville yesterday morning.

Sunflower County reports third death related to COVID-19

Sunflower County’s number of positive COVID-19 patients has not risen sharply in the past couple of weeks, but the county did record its third death from the virus.

The Mississippi State Department of Health showed the number of official positive tests stands at 57 as of Monday, with three confirmed deaths related to the virus.
